JOINING A MOTORHOME AND CARAVAN CLUB
Buying your new motorhome or campervan isn’t just about owning a new vehicle, it’s about opening up a new sort of life for yourself and whoever you travel with, whether that’s partner, family or friends. Imagine all of that open road – the length and breadth of the country is yours to explore, and you can even zip off into Europe if you wish.
Along the way, you’ll find that you become more and more integrated into the motorhome or campervan community. You’ll make new friends as you go – and that means you’ll not only have fantastic social times, but a great resource for advice, tips and tricks about your vehicle and the 'on the road' lifestyle.
Another valuable thing you can do is sign up to join a formal motorhome or campervan club as there are many benefits to doing so. In this edition of our blog we’ll focus on the UK’s main clubs, and what being a member will entail.
Caravan & Motorhome Club
This very popular organisation was established way back in 1907 as the Caravan Club. Since 2017 it has included motorhomes in its name as recognition of this increasingly and enormously popular method of leisure vehicle fun. Travellers in the club gain access to approximately 3,000 locations in the UK (and some in Europe), with some good discounts on site stays available, as well as bonuses such as cheaper entry to tourist attractions. Membership of the Caravan & Motorhome Club costs £63 per year (by direct debit, or £73 if paid by credit or debit card).
The Motor Caravanners Club
This is a family focused club with membership available to travellers of all ages. Each year there are a number of large rallies per area of the UK. Members meet up at these events (held at venues such as schools, village halls, cricket clubs, rugby and football clubs) and there are also other social gatherings throughout the year. The Motor Caravanners Club operates ‘casual camping sites’ in both the UK and Europe, with some bookable in advance and some where you can just rock up and relax.
Membership of this club also includes potential savings on your insurance premium (around 10-15% annually) as well as breakdown recovery. Membership also includes discounts from certain accessory firms as well as deals on campsites, ferries and European rallies. It’s possible to join online and annual membership fee is £37.75, with payment taken by debit or credit card.
Camping & Caravanning Club
This is a not-for-profit organisation which has been in operation for more than 120 years! The Camping and Caravanning Club has around 750,000 members per year in the UK, and is considered the world’s largest organisation for outdoor and leisure vehicle types. When you are a member, you will have access to almost a hundred club-owned and managed sites (sited from the Cornish coast to the Scottish Highlands) and more than 1,200 member-exclusive sites, plus many self-catering properties.
Membership of the Camping & Caravanning Club costs £48 per year (for digital membership) or £53 per year (for paper membership). All monies spent with the club are reinvested back into the sites and services they provide. There is also a regularly updated online magazine, and a hub of free information for travellers.
Joining one of these clubs will give you access to ‘hands on’ motorhome and campervan advice when you need it, loads of social events, new friends when you want to make them, potential savings on things like insurance or campsite fees, plus a sense of belonging to the motorhome and campervan communities. Your membership fee is a price worth paying for all of these enhancements to your adventure travelling lifestyle! See you out on the road!
