Camper UK is once again proud to have its name associated with two of the leagues leading divisions: the Camper UK Premier Division North and Camper UK Premier Division South. For us, the partnership is about supporting football across the communities surrounding our Lincolnshire home and helping an established regional competition continue to develop and reach new audiences. Looking back at last season Before attention turns fully to the new campaign, congratulations are due to the two sides that finished at the top of the Camper UK Premier Divisions last season. Kinsley Boys F.C. were crowned champions of the Camper UK Premier Division North, finishing the season with 77 points from 30 matches. They recorded 25 wins during an impressive campaign and finished ahead of Dinnington Town J.F.C. In the Camper UK Premier Division South, Selston F.C. First took the title after collecting 75 points from their 32 matches, five points clear of second-placed Graham Street Prims. Congratulations to both clubs on their achievements. A new season begins Attention now turns to the 2026/27 season, with a fresh set of clubs ready to compete across both Camper UK Premier Divisions. The Premier Division North gets underway with its opening fixtures on Tuesday 11 August, including AFC Phoenix against Dinnington Town J.F.C., SJR Worksop against Worksop Town Reserves, Burngreave United against Evo Soccer FC, Glapwell against Teversal and Harworth Colliery against AFC Bentley. With a full season of league and cup football ahead, there will be plenty to follow as clubs compete for points, positions and ultimately the chance to become the next Premier Division champions. Meet Jacob Two Years Into His Apprenticeship Journey Jacob is currently two years into his apprenticeship, combining hands-on workshop experience at Camper UK with structured study at Lincoln College. When asked how the experience has been so far: Yeah, its been good. Learnt different skills that come into life as well. That idea learning skills that immediately apply in real situations captures one of the most powerful aspects of apprenticeships. Meet Ryan From Technician to Woodworking Apprentice Ryans route into an apprenticeship reflects how career progression often evolves naturally within the workplace. When discussing his experience, Ryan noted the balance between college learning and workshop realities: I found it okay. Some parts were a little bit difficult due to what my work environment is like and what I was learning in college. But when I was at college, I learnt a lot of different skills and machinery skills and techniques that will help me in the future. Ryan completed his apprenticeship over 18 months, training in woodworking and furniture making while studying at Lincoln College. Like many apprentices, adapting theory and structured learning to the pace of a busy workshop was part of the growth process. When reflecting on the most valuable skills he developed, Ryan highlighted core craftsmanship techniques: I found the most valuable skills have been to do with either cutting, glueing, and finishing. Beyond technical ability, Ryan also emphasised the workplace culture: My favourite part would be learning different skills and probably building relationships with everybody that I work with. Interestingly, Ryan did not initially join Camper UK as an apprentice: I was initially working at Camper UK as a technician, and management approached me with an apprenticeship opportunity in woodworking and furniture making. I said yes. This reinforces an important reality: apprenticeships are not limited to school leavers they are also powerful upskilling pathways for existing employees. Now that his apprenticeship has finished, Ryan has transitioned seamlessly into full-time workshop life: Im finding it good. Its just a normal working day every day. I dont think Ill so much be making furniture as most of it is already pre-built. But I just carry on doing my job every day. What the Petition Says The petition, started by Gary Martin Cooper, urges the UK Government to allow holders of a UK Category B driving licence to drive motorhomes weighing up to 4,250 kg (4.25 tonnes). Currently, the law only permits Category B licence holders to drive motorhomes with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of up to 3,500 kg. Signatories argue that: The existing 3,500 kg limit restricts access to larger, more comfortable motorhomes that many people want to drive. Many motorhomes slightly over 3.5 t are automatic, making them especially appealing to people with disabilities or reduced mobility. At the time of writing, thousands of people have signed the petition, which runs until 9 April 2026. If it reaches: 10,000 signatures the Government will be required to respond. Why 3,500 kg Is the Current UK Limit Under existing UK rules, a full Category B licence generally allows you to drive a vehicle with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of up to 3,500 kg. Above that up to 7,500 kg you would normally need a Category C1 licence (a medium goods vehicle entitlement). This limit affects many larger motorhomes designed to carry heavier payloads for passengers, equipment, and accessories. Even if a motorhome could be safely driven at a higher limit, the licence restriction stops many from legally driving them without additional testing. Whats Happening in Europe Part of the petitions rationale comes from proposed changes in the EU to driving licence rules, which would allow Class B licence holders to drive motorhomes up to 4,250 kg provided certain conditions are met (like licence age, training, or testing). In the EUs updated Driving Licence Directive, member states will be able to permit this higher limit once they adopt the rules into national law with flexibility on whether additional training or testing is required. However, since Brexit, the UK is not automatically bound by EU directives, meaning any change here must be made by the UK Government. What This Would Mean for UK Motorhome Drivers If the UK were to adopt the change suggested by the petition: Many motorhomes currently inaccessible to Category B drivers could become legal to drive without upgrading to a Category C1 licence. Manufacturers might have greater flexibility in designing motorhomes that offer higher payloads while staying within legal limits for licence holders.
